Educational Philosophy

My Educational Philosophy is that each student is unique and capable of learning. I am a facilitator to their success, and I provide meaningful, engaging ways to help them succeed.

As an Educator I believe:
  • The purpose of education is to help each student reach their full potential.
  • My role as an educator is instill a love of learning in all my students, and be a facilitator of learning.
  • I  reach diverse students by finding meaningful ways to engage them and help them make connections.
  • I create an learning environment that is based on trust, community and encouragement.
  • My instructional strategies include a variety of activities designed to reach students with many learning styles.
  • I incorporate authentic assessment, to help students gain a broad understanding of subjects in a way they can connect with.
  • I look at each student as an individual, and provide adaptations to help them learn the way that is best for them.
  • My goals for students is to have each of them grow as a whole person: academically, individually and socially.
  • I bring global awareness into my classroom by helping students understand their community and the world around them.
  • I build strong relationships with parents; communication is key to helping students achieve.
  • I collaborate closely with my colleges, and work to create a family of learning.
Technology in the Classroom

I feel lucky to live in a time and place where technology is so readily available. I use technology to help be a better teacher by being able to access sites such as Pinterest and Teachers Pay Teachers, as well as a variety of blogs and Facebook groups. These resources allow teachers to pool together a wealth of information and get feedback and ideas from each other. It really inspires my teaching style and gives me fresh ideas to connect to my students in an ever-changing world.

I love using technology in the classroom, and it goes so much farther than even just a smart board or computer usage! Social media groups help students and families stay connected, and classroom management apps like Class Dojo are a great way to communicate. Apps such as Kahoot helps teachers provide engaging forms of assessment and accountability. Project-making apps that allow student to create projects of all kinds, from videos to blogs to recording serve as fun and engaging tools for authentic assessment and deepening understanding of concepts.  Sites like Dreambox or Khan Academy help students practice skills on their own, and help classes differentiate by allowing students to access help or move ahead at a pace that is suited to them. BrainPop is a  great recourse for teachers to access educational videos to help explain new concepts in an engaging way. Sites like GoNoodle provide fun brain breaks and physical activity to help students stay alert and active throughout the day. Technology is an amazing resource, and one that I love to incorporate!
