Khan Academy Reflection
1. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented
be appropriate?
Khan Academy would be appropriate in virtually all classrooms, because it is an independent technology resource. There is no collaboration, and there is no social aspect of the platform. The only other person who can see the student's work is the teacher. Answers to questions are done in multiple choice format, so there is no chance to write inappropriate comments. The videos provided for help are directly embedded, eliminating the need for students to go online for additional resources or help.
2. In what learning environments would the technology resource I presented
NOT be appropriate?
Khan Academy is appropriate for all classroom learning environments. It even uses a feature which tells teachers how much time students spent working, both as a whole and on individual problems, and it times out after about 10 minutes of inactivity.
3. How might it be modified to be appropriate?
Teachers need to be diligent ensuring their students time-on-task is appropriate, and that students are making adequate progress. Aside form this, it is safe for classroom use, and requires low monitoring for appropriate behaviors.
4. What do you now know that needs to be considered when using
technology in the classroom?
There are many wonderful resources available- but whenever our students have an opportunity to engage with each other, teachers must be aware and proactive in monitoring usage. Students would not be left in a physical classroom or at recess unattended, and this mindset must be kept with technology usage. Students must be taught appropriate behaviors, and expected to follow safety and "nettique" protocol. Teacher are responsible to ensure their students are using technology appropriately, and monitor the sites and information allowed to be accessed in class. Students should also be taught to communicate politely with students from other places and cultures, and be mindful that digital words are parallel to verbal words. This will help our students have safe, effective and productive technological experiences.

Fantastic job reflecting on the Global Digital Citizenship unit with complete, well-reasoned, and insightful answers to all four questions posed in the assignment, using the technology from your presentation on Kahn Academy. I especially like your specific and practical examples. You made several key points which demonstrate your appreciation for keeping our students safe when online.
